pandapaxxy (PvE / M+KB / Controller): "Backfang is an interesting glaive. It gives the rapid-fire frame some more love outside of a raid or dungeon. Impulse Amplifier helps that lower range and boosts reload. You can also pair this with the excellent add clearing utility of Voltshot. Do note that Grave Robber doesn't proc Voltshot but will help with Desperate Measures. The standard glaive perks will always apply but your usage might be better with some builds than others." Recommended MW: Shield Duration.

pandapaxxy (PvP / M+KB / Controller): "Glaives are not meta in PvP. Rapid-fire glaives even less so. Impulse Amplifier will help make sure your precious shots hit and Unstoppable Force will make those shots do more damage. If you fully invest into blocking you could go for Tilting at Windmills or Replenishing Aegis. Close to Melee also works phenomenally if you can secure the kill with the glaive. But as always with these weapons, they're not for the faint of heart." Recommended MW: Range or Shield Duration.

Adamsdown_Boy written v8.5.2.1 (PvE PvE-Boss PvE-MajorSpec M+KB Controller): Backup PvE pick for dealing with Majors in both general at-level or better, and end-game underlevelled content. Backfang is the first Rapid-Fire glaive that you can use in the kinetic slot, for any glaive aficionados but, if you're after a roll. remember to reset your Gambit reputation as many times as you're able, to maximise your chances from the 12×12 trait perk options. At base, the stats are okay by comparison with its peers - 43 Range and equates to 17.35 ADS and a velocity of 100.36m/s, Shield Duration of 27 is 9.62s when fully charged, 71 Handling is 0.27s ready and 0.31s stow speed, 70 Reload Speed is a 2.27s reload (1.82s when reloading form an empty mag with the frame intrinsic), and base magazine size is 6 (max 8). With 0/1/2/3 reserves mods, total ammo is 36/40/44/44 (max 44). The one stat that's noticably poor is Range, so use the barrel perk to improve that, or you can extend Shield Duration if you playstyle involves blocking damage. For the magazine perk, again look to boost Range and/or Reload Speed. There are a fair few potential first trait perk column options for PvE - if you're using the glaive shield regularly, the combination of Replenishing Aegis to refill your mag when blocking damage, or Immovable Object for increased energy when you're stationery and blocking, together with Unstoppable Force for a ×1.2 boost to bolt damage while shielding is a natural pairing. Alternatively, in the first trait perk column, Field Prep boosts ammo reserves as well as Reload Speed and ready/stow speed when crouched, Lead From Gold is great for overall ammo economy, or Impulse Amplifier passively boosts Velocity and Reload Speed. Gun and Run is a decent origin trait for a melee playstyle, granting a ×1.0625 sprint speed boost for 10s for killing a Major or better or three Minors within 10s. Recommended MW: Range with a Backup Mag mod or, when fully enhanced, Synergy for Strand Tangles or when the champion mod's on the seasonal artifact, Stunloader. Also, don't forget to check whether there's a useful Seasonal Fragile mod for the activity you're running.|tags:PvE PvE-Boss PvE-MajorSpec M+KB Controller

What these Backfang perks do

Grave Robber

Powered Melee Hits and (Glaive) Melee Kills refill the magazine from reserves. 3 second cooldown between activations.

Close to Melee

Glaive Projectile Kills grant 60% [30%] increased Glaive Melee damage for 10 seconds. Dealing Projectile or Melee damage extends the buff duration by 5 seconds, up to 10 seconds.

Field Prep

Grants the following while Crouched: • 50 Reload Speed • 0.8x Reload Duration Multiplier • 0.8x Ready/Stow Duration Multiplier Passively grants 20 Ammo Generation stat. (50% more than 1 Ammo Generation armor mod)

Lead from Gold

Heavy Ammo Pickups grants 25% of your maximum Special Ammo Reserves even while the weapon is stowed. Equipping two Special Weapons halves the amount of ammo granted.

Impulse Amplifier

Passively grants 20 Reload Speed and 15% decreased Reload Animation Duration (20% for Rocket Launchers). Passively increases Projectile Velocity based on Weapon Archetype: • Rocket Launchers: 10% • Support-Frame Auto Rifles: 15% • Micro-Missile Frame Weapons: 25%

Alloy Magazine

Linearly grants a Reload Duration Multiplier as your magazine drops from 50% capacity to empty. Reload Duration Multiplier scales from 0.9x at 50% capacity to 0.8x with an empty magazine.

Replenishing Aegis

Refills 1 round into the Magazine from reserves upon blocking damage. 1 second cooldown after activation. Does not work while the magazine is overfilled (assumed).

Unstoppable Force

Blocking damage with the Glaive Shield grants 20% increased projectile damage for 4 seconds. Buff is removed if you stop blocking.

Immovable Object

While blocking and stationary: Glaive Projectiles Hits grant 90% increased Weapon Energy.

Voltshot

Finishing a reload within 5.3 seconds of a Weapon Kill grants Voltshot for 7 seconds. While Voltshot is active, your next Weapon Hit consumes the buff and applies Jolt to the target. Applied Jolt's damage (generally) does not count as Weapon Damage.

Unrelenting

Starts Health Regeneration and restores 65 HP upon reaching 100% Activation Progress with Weapon Kills within 5 seconds of each. Activation Progress by Enemy Rank: • Minor Combatants: 34% • Players: 67% • Elites, Minibosses, and Bosses: 100%

Wellspring

On Weapon Kill: Grants 8% Ability Energy split equally amongst all uncharged abilities. Abilities with multiple charges only receive one third of the ability energy normally split to them once they have a full ability charge ready. Ability energy gained may be significantly decreased based on your selected ability's Chunk Energy Scalar. Learn more about this mechanic in our explainer blog post on the Clarity website.

Desperate Measures

Weapon Kills grant 'Desperate Measures x1' (DMx1), increasing damage by 10% for 7 seconds. Grenade or Melee Kills grant 20% increased damage for 7 seconds (DMx2). Scoring another Grenade or Melee Kill with DMx2 active increases this to 30% (DMx3). Can be activated while stowed. Weapon, Grenade, and Melee Kills refresh the buff duration.

Swap Mag

Decreases Ready/Stow Animation Duration by 10%.

Tilting at Windmills

Blocking damage with this weapon increases movement speed while Blocking by 25?% for 4 seconds. Buff is removed when you stop blocking or if Glaive/Sword Energy runs out.
