pandapaxxy (PvE / M+KB / Controller): "What a missed opportunity for an underutilized sword to have a specific niche. How interesting would it be if Bungie introduced a double zoom sword. Valiant Charge and Eager Edge. Swap to the sword for your first zoom, block on your way for a second. Be able to zoom In two different directions or one direction for a huge zoooom. Without that it falls into a large category of underused adaptive frame swords." Recommended MW: Impact.

pandapaxxy (PvP / M+KB / Controller): "As with most adaptive frame swords, they’re not great in PvP. At least not this one. Valiant Charge is great for closing the distance but it’s not incredible" Recommended MW: Impact.

Inspired by @PodvsEnemies Podcast vs Enemies episode 91 (https://open.spotify.com/episode/50NPk7xF3Tt6X3DVucE9jU?si=44d2b7d44a5a4aec) with @CourtProjects and @ImpetusAlways. First-choice PvE pick for add clearing Minor spec enemies in end-game content, particularly with a solar subclass. If you already have a solar boss damage sword, you can pass. If you don't, then maybe consider trying to craft a Caretaker from Dares of Eternity before settling. If you want to use Abide the Return, then get a blade perk that increases ammo and reserves (adds will die to a single hit anyway) and, for a guard perk, Swordmaster's Guard speeds up your heavy attack regeneration or Balanced Guard gives you a little bit of everything to help survive in CQC. The usual trait combination of Tireless Blade or Relentless Strikes to extend your ammo and Incandescent to help with add clear, should make room clearing easy. You don't need to use a solar subclass but you can improve scorch and ignite verbs further with your fragments. The Advanced Reflexes origin trait is quite useful in PvE - when activated by an enemy hit, it adds +20 charge rate for faster heavy attacks, together with a handy +20 Mobility, for 7.5s. Recommended MW: Impact, with a damage boosting (Minor, Major or Taken Spec) mod. Tags: PvE, PvE-MinorSpec, PvE-EndGame, PvE-God, M+KB, Controller

First-choice PvE pick for sustained damage to Boss Spec enemies in end-game content. If you already have a solar boss damage sword, you can pass. If you want to use Abide the Return, then get a blade perk that increases damage and, for a guard perk, Swordmaster's Guard speeds up your heavy attack regeneration or Balanced Guard gives you a little bit of everything to help survive in CQC with a boss. The usual trait combination of Relentless Strikes, returning one ammo for everyth three light hits, and Whirlwind Blade for an escalating +3% bump to damage topping off at +30% for landing light hits makes for a decent, if not top-tier option for boss DPS phases. The Advanced Reflexes origin trait is quite useful in PvE - when activated by an enemy hit, it adds +20 charge rate for faster heavy attacks, together with a handy +20 Mobility, for 7.5s. What these Abide the Return perks do

Relentless Strikes

Scoring 3 Powered Hits within 2? seconds of each refunds 1 ammo. Wolfpack Round Hits do not count.

Whirlwind Blade

Powered Sword Hits grant 3% increased damage for 3.5 seconds. Stacks 10 times for a 30% Buff. Stowing the weapon or Blocking removes all stacks. Wolfpack Round Hits also count as Powered Sword Hits.

Tireless Blade

Your first Powered Sword Kill after (re)spawning refunds 1 Ammo. Afterward, every other Powered Sword Kill also refunds 1 Ammo.

Incandescent

Weapon Kills trigger a Solar explosion that applies 30 Scorch Stacks (40 with Ember of Ashes) and deals up to 30 damage to enemies within 4 meters of the target. Killing Elite or higher tier Combatants and Players increases the radius to 8 meters and applies 10 more Scorch Stacks. Scorch damage can be increased through Weapon Damage Buffs.

Valiant Charge

Taking any damage while Guarding increases Lunge Distance by 80% for the next swing within 1 second. Guarding while receiving Healing Effects (including healing over time from Restoration) from allies also activates the perk.

Duelist's Trance

Sword Kills grant 60 Guard Resistance, Guard Endurance, and (Guard) Charge Rate. Buff is removed on stow.

Energy Transfer

Every point of damage taken while Guarding grants Class Ability Energy: • 1.5% when Melee Damage is Blocked • 1% when non-Melee Damage is Blocked • 0.5% when damage isn't Blocked (getting hit from behind) Ability energy gained may be significantly decreased based on your selected ability's Chunk Energy Scalar.
