pandapaxxy (PvE / M+KB / Controller): "Prophet of Doom always had a decent model, but that doesn't carry over to its perks. Reconstruction is the best pseudo-auto-loading perk but without Grave Robber I feel the punch shotgun play style falls off quickly. You can have a similar Fourth Horseman-lite experience with Cascade Point but it's not anything to write home about." Recommended MW: Reload Speed.

pandapaxxy (PvP / M+KB / Controller): "Prophet of Doom fares a bit better in the Crucible. Being able to show the power of old and new. Threat Detector and Closing Time gives you great handling to almost entirely invest in range whenever you're close to a target, and also on your last bullet. Opening Shot is a bit better if you're an ammo hoarder or use your shotgun defensively and prefer a consistent experience shot to shot." Recommended MW: Handling.

Adamsdown_Boy written v8.1.5.1 (PvE PvE-Boss PvE-Major PvE-Champion PvE-EndGame PvE-God M+KB Controller): PvE pick for special weapon burst damage against Majors and Champions in general, and end-game underleveled content. Prophet of Doom joins the rather large list of decent raid shotguns, so if you already have one, you might consider passing. At base the stats are good - 67 Range equates to 5.74m, 35 Handling equates to a 0.42s ready, 0.37s ADS and 0.45s stow time, and 43 Reload Speed is a 0.76s reload per shell. As it's a precision frame, you don't need to worry about Recoil Direction, magazine size is 5 (max 7) and with 0/1/2/3 Reserves mods you have total ammo of 20/22/24/25 (max 25). If you're still looking for a burst damage weapon, you have One-Two Punch available in the second trait perk column for ×2 melee (once that make director contact with enemies, anyway) ability damage and ×2.5 against bosses and vehicles for 1.22s. You can opt to keep the pellet spread as tight as possible, or boost handling with the barrel perk and Assault Mag or Tactical Mag are good magazine perk choices. There are a few perks that can help with reload in the first trait perk column - Reconstruction passively overfills your mag over time, Threat Remover's stat boosts proc on the same condition as One-Two Punch, or Slideways partially refills after a slide. The Photoinhibition origin trait is very strong for PvE - a ×1.343 damage boost against barriers and elemental shields and ×1.216 against combatant overshields plus disorienting your target and, if matched with the shield type adds nearby too for 7s. Recommended MW: Handling, with a Quick Access Sling mod or, when masterworked, Synergy to create the occasional Ionic Trace from a weapon kill or, when the artifact mod's around, Stunloader.|tags:PvE PvE-Boss PvE-Major PvE-Champion PvE-EndGame PvE-God M+KB Controller

Look for a barrel perk that boosts Handling, and and Assault Mag or Tactical Mag are good magazine perk choices. In the first trait perk column, Pugilist returns 20% (22% when enhanced) melee ability energy on a kill, or there are a few perks that can help with reload in the first trait perk column - Threat Detector boosts Handling and Reload in CQC, Reconstruction passively overfills your mag over time, or Slideways partially refills after a slide. Inspired by @PodvsEnemies episode 125 from 3 December 2024 (https://open.spotify.com/episode/0unzzecMfqDsL3nxHGSQsp?si=d40055092caa4fa1) with @CourtProjects, @Saint_Kabr and @ImpetusAlways (PvE PvE-Boss PvE-Major PvE-Champion PvE-EndGame PvE-God M+KB Controller): First-choice PvE pick for special weapon burst damage against Majors and Champions in general, and end-game underleveled content, particularly with arc builds. Although the combatant damage modifier isn't great for shotguns, Voltshot is still quite fun, if you don't have one already, and viable as you only need to reload one shell to proc it. Look for a barrel perk that boosts Handling, and then Tactical Mag helps with reload speed. There are only two perks in the first trait perk column that help further with reload - Threat Detector is easier to proc and maxes Handling and Reload Speed when you're in CQC, or Air Trigger is even faster if you're happy to bunny hop as you reload. The Photoinhibition origin trait is very strong for PvE - a ×1.343 damage boost against barriers and elemental shields and ×1.216 against combatant overshields plus disorienting your target and, if matched with the shield type adds nearby too for 7s. Full Choke as the barrel perk makes hitting all your pellets slightly easier and Assault Mag speeds up follow-up shots as the mag perk. Together with One-Two Punch, Reconstruction overflows your magazine passively over time or Pugilist returns 20% melee energy on shotgun kills (although you're more likely to get your kills with your melee so it might be slightly less useful here). The Photoinhibition origin trait is very strong for PvE - a ×1.343 damage boost against barriers and elemental shields and ×1.216 against combatant overshields plus disorienting your target and, if matched with the shield type adds nearby too for 7s.
