pandapaxxy (PvE / M+KB / Controller): "What a fun little trace rifle. I would recommend Rewind Rounds with Killing Tally to make the most of your ammo while supplementing your builds. Or you can go High-Impact Reserves with Target Lock to really deal damage into bosses. The newest perk, Detonator Beam, looks to be a trace rifle equivalent of Kinetic Tremors. Definitely a good perk to try out." Recommended MW: Reload Speed.

Inspired by @PodvsEnemies episode 133 from 11 March 2025 (https://open.spotify.com/episode/49VFDRj05iDXTJDOBqQpga?si=e61731a19fb64938) with @CourtProjects, @Saint_Kabr and @ImpetusAlways (PvE PvE-MinorSpec PvE-God M+KB Controller): First-choice PvE pick for use against Minor add groups in both general at-level or better, and end-game underlevelled content, particularly with arc builds. There are a few legendary adaptive frame trace rifles available now, and Warlord's Spear is not a bad arc variant. At base, the stats are good by comparison with its peers - 67 Range and 16 Zoom equate to 34.51m ADS and 21.57m hipfire, 76 Stability is ×1.2575 flinch resist at 100 Resilience, 55 Handling is 0.37s ready, 0.29s ADS and 0.34s stow speed, 33 Reload Speed is a 2.01s reload and Recoil Direction is 93. Base magazine size is 97 (Max 104) and, with 0/1/2/3 reserves mods, total ammo is 525/575/626/641 (max 687). Use the barrel perk to improve Handling (M+KB) or Stability (Controller), and then either a battery perk to boost capacity or Stability or something to help with reload speed. In the first trait perk column, Rewind Rounds is probably the pick of the utility perks, although Envious Assassin or Loose Change are very decent alternatives. For arc builds, Jolting Feedback is great to apply Jolt for both single target damage and add clearing, proccing after 18 hits (17 when the perk's enhanced and 13 when amplified), to synergise with arc fragments. The reworked Skulking Wolf origin trait can be useful in PvE, making enemies less accurate when firing at you for 10s after getting a kill while at low health. Recommended MW: Handling with a Backup Mag mod or, when fully enhanced, Synergy to create Ionic Traces or, when the artifact mod's around, Stunloader. Also, don't forget to check whether there's a useful Seasonal Fragile mod for the activity you're running.|tags:PvE PvE-MinorSpec PvE-God M+KB Controller

In the second column, Detonator Beam is very strong, providing a wide AoE detonation that's like a heavy weapon Chain Reaction on steroids, and about twice the damage Firefly and Dragonfly for landing about 25 shots (around 20 when enhanced), to wipe out groups of adds around your target. The reworked Skulking Wolf origin trait can be useful in PvE, making enemies less accurate when firing at you for 10s after getting a kill while at low health. The first trait perk column standout Rewind Rounds is a decent alternative to extend your magazine and reduce the need to reload, although Envious Assassin can overfill your battery with kills from other weapons. pandapaxxy (PvP / M+KB / Controller): "Trace rifles have seen less usage thanks to the special ammo changes a while back. The lower ammo count really hurts these weapons. Bungie keeps trying to adjust them but they're only fun when you can run around with them as a primary suped up auto rifle. Dynamic Sway Reduction will help the bloom and accuracy, though High-Impact Reserves will be nice every time you spawn dealing extra damage." Recommended MW: Range.

What these Warlord's Spear perks do

Rewind Rounds

Upon emptying the Magazine: Refills 60% of the number of Hits landed (rounded up) into the Magazine from reserves. Hits are counted from either your last reload or the last time the perk was triggered. Does not require Direct Hits. Requires firing 28.75% of the Magazine Capacity for the refill to activate. Cannot load the Magazine beyond its base capacity. Hits after triggering a refill do not count while the Rewind Rounds buff is active (1? second). Adaptive Burst Linear Fusion Rifle behavior: • Each individual bolt in the burst counts as a Hit • Refill amount is uniquely 14% of the number of Hits rounded up (numbers are subject to change once we get more data points)

Jolting Feedback

Scoring multiple Direct Hits with the weapon within 3 seconds of each causes the next Direct Hit to apply Jolt. Being Amplified decreases the number of Hits required. Hits needed to activate normally | while Amplified: • Submachine Guns, Trace Rifles: 18 | 13 • Machine Guns: 16 | 11 • Auto Rifles: 15 | 11 • Pulse Rifles: 14 | 9 • Sidearms: 10 | 7 • Rocket Pulse Rifle: 8 | 5 • Scout Rifles, Hand Cannons: 7 | 6 • Swords: 6 | 4 • Glaives, Linear Fusion Rifles: 4 | 3 • Rocket Sidearm, Sniper Rifle?: 4 | 2 • Bows, Grenade Launchers: 3 | 2 • Shotguns, Aggressive Frame Fusion Rifle: 3|1

Envious Assassin

Upon readying the weapon after scoring Kills with your other Weapons: Refills and/or overfills the Magazine from reserves based on the amount of Weapon Kills scored. Maximum total overfill amount is 200% of the Magazine Capacity. Each activation can only load up to 100% of the Magazine Capacity into the magazine. Loaded ammo per Kill by ammo type (rounds up): • Primary Weapons: 10% of Magazine Capacity • Special and Power Weapons: 20%

Loose Change

Applying an Elemental Debuff grants the following benefits for 9 seconds: • 50 Reload Speed and 20 Aim Assist • 20% decreased ADS Movement Speed Penalty Buff can be activated while stowed.

Detonator Beam

Scoring 25 Hits within ? seconds of each triggers an explosion around the target, dealing up to 250 [?] weapon element-matching damage in an 8 meter radius.

Killing Tally

Weapon Kills grant a Stack of Killing Tally. Maximum of 3 Stacks. Stowing or reloading the weapon removes all Stacks. Damage increase at 1|2|3 Stacks: • PVE: 10% | 20% | 30% • PVP: 5% | 10% | 15%

Target Lock

Successive Hits within 0.2 seconds of each grant a ramping Damage Buff after scoring 12.5% of the Magazine Capacity as hits. Missing deactivates the buff. Stacks displayed on-screen are only visual aides, the buff ramps up with each shot once active. Reaches maximum strength at 5 Stacks. % of the Magazine Capacity as Hits required for each Visual Stack: 12.5%|35.5%|54.5%|74.5%|110.33% Damage Buff ramps up from 16.73% [10.46%] to 40% [25%] upon reaching maximum strength. Assuming no missed shots, it provides roughly a 25% [15.85%] Damage Buff on average after firing 100% of the Magazine Capacity.

High-Impact Reserves

Increases damage by 12.1% [3%] to 25.6% [6%] as the Magazine drops from 50% of its base capacity to empty. The buff in PVE ranges between 10.3% and 22.9% instead on Fusion Rifles and Aggressive Frame Linear Fusion Rifles. Does not buff the Splash/Explosive damage elements of other perks.

Dynamic Sway Reduction

Each shot while holding down the trigger grants the following benefits: • 1 Stability • ?% decreased Accuracy Cone Size • 10% decreased Accuracy Cone Growth Reaches maximum strength after 10 shots, granting 10 Stability, ?% decreased Accuracy Cone Size, and 100% decreased Accuracy Cone Growth.

Desperate Measures

Weapon Kills grant 'Desperate Measures x1' (DMx1), increasing damage by 10% for 7 seconds. Grenade or Melee Kills grant 20% increased damage for 7 seconds (DMx2). Scoring another Grenade or Melee Kill with DMx2 active increases this to 30% (DMx3). Can be activated while stowed. Weapon, Grenade, and Melee Kills refresh the buff duration.

Hip-Fire Grip

Grants the following benefits while hipfiring: • 25 Stability and 15 Aim Assist • 2.7° larger Precision Aim Cone Angle • 30% decreased Accuracy Cone Size • 20% increased Aim Assist Falloff Distance • 20% increased Damage Falloff Distance The Damage Falloff increase does not apply to The Last Word, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, and Fusion Rifles. PvP-specific note: the Precision Aim Cone Angle increase essentially just allows you to hit Crits while aimed above or slightly to the side of the head. (This is already the default behavior of Submachine Guns, Sidearms, Bows, Machine Guns, and Linear Fusion Rifles so it does not affect them)
